Who doesn't love Park Tavern?

January's Third Thursday will be held on Thursday, January 18 at the Park Tavern in St. Louis Park. Cash bar at 6pm, dinner at 7pm.

We will meet in a semi-private room in the back of Park Tavern -- "The 11th Frame" -- which features:

  • Our own bar & bartender
  • Pool tables
  • Dart boards

We will NOT be bowling because leagues are in session in January.

Dinner will either be a buffet, or a set menu where you'd choose from 6 entrees. PLEASE NOTE WHICH YOU'D PREFER IN YOUR RSVP. The decision between buffet/menu will be made in early January and announced (along with the cost).

If you live in the Twin Cities, you should've received an Evite to the event. If you did not, please contact Laura at laurawhisney@gmail.com. Please RSVP by Evite or by sending an email to Laura.

Alumni vs. "Active" Football Game

I've finally recovered from the rather physical two-hand touch Alumni/Active football game last Sunday, and wanted to share some pictures from the event. We had amazing weather, so I'm not sure why only 1 active member showed up:

We split the 16 alumni in attendance down the middle and played some 7 on 7. I think the final score was 38-26? Regardless, the Alumni won...

Back Row:
Jason Busta, Reed Richerson, Ryan Hays, Matt McEwen, Derek Holl, Chris Lund, Joe Heinert, Matt Kuhlman
Middle Row: Tony Black, Eric Enders, Jeff Trousil, Chris Brown, Dan Vogtman, Chad Crowley, Todd Hering
Front: Mike Dwyer (active)

Lyndell Truitt Kissed by John O'Hurley in TV Debut

Lyndell Truitt, AH '96, recently appeared on The Family Feud with three of her four sisters and her dad. The Truitts auditioned in Milwaukee in July, and flew to Los Angeles in September for the filming. The episode originally aired on October 5, 2006.

Within 5 seconds of meeting her, host John O'Hurley succombed to Lyn's legendary charm, flirting and kissing her hand. The Truitt Family started strong, winning the first round with the question "We asked 100 people where to go to fool around at your office." Lyn proved a strong team leader by answering the initial question correctly and deciding to play. Her family pulled through with correct answers such as "the copy room", "the bathroom", and "the conference room". Sorry, Andrea, but "under your desk" was not a correct answer.

Unfortunately, a question about what makes Popeye sexy tripped up the Truitts and it was downhill from there. They lost the game and went home to Milwaukee after a few days of SoCal R&R with their parting gift (a coupon for the Family Feud computer game).

Lyn was an AKPsi Housing Scholarship winner, and lived in the AKPsi House throughout her college career. She is employed as the E-Commerce Marketing Manager at C&H Distributors in Milwaukee, is pursuing her MBA at Marquette University part-time, and lives in West Allis, WI.

AKPsi Twentysomething Happy Hour

We don't care if you haven't been to an event since last century's Demit - it's time for young(ish) alumni to get together over FREE APPETIZERS and cheap drinks.

A new tradition - the AKPsi Twentysomething Happy Hour!

The inaugural event will be held at The Independent in Uptown on Wednesday, November 8 at 5pm. The event is FREE if you have paid your alumni dues (or $5 if your membership has lapsed). You will have the option to pay your dues that night at the door.

Notes:

* The event is scheduled from 5pm-7pm -- no guarantee on appetizers after 7 but people will probably still be around if you have to work late.

* Non-alumni friends/co-workers/significant others are $5 (includes apps) - please RSVP w/ their name if you're bringing a guest.

* This event is focused on "youngerish" alumni - but if someone isn't quite in that age group and wants to attend, that's fine :)

* Calhoun Square offers ramp parking, meters are on the street.

Alpha Eta Alumnus for State Representative

As many of you may be aware, Jason Van Buren, an alumnus of Alpha Kappa Psi Alpha Eta chapter, is seeking election to the Minnesota House of Representatives in District 44A—St. Louis Park/Hopkins. Jason is a lifetime resident of the State of Minnesota. He has graduated of the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota majoring in Finance and Management Information Systems. Jason has had a history of civic involvement including but not limited to the St. Louis Park Human Rights Commission, as well as extensive involvement with several Scouts organizations.

This letter is to both inform you of his decision to run and to ask for your support. In challenging an incumbent, there is a great deal of work that must be completed; however, such work requires adequate funding.

Minnesota has a program in which contributions to candidates who have chosen the public funding option are reimbursable one time up to $50 per individual and $100 per couple. Should you wish to contribute, the campaign will provide you with a receipt and the necessary form to be sent to the State. Once you complete the form and send it to the State, you will be reimbursed up to the aforementioned amounts.

In order to qualify for the public funding program, the Van Buren campaign must raise at least $1500 in donations of $50 or less. These contributions must be in the campaign account by September 1, 2006 and, thus, must be received several days prior to that date. For more information regarding the reimbursement program you may visit the MN Campaign Finance Board website.

If you are at all willing to contribute, please do so as soon as possible. You may contribute via mail or PayPal. Instructions for both methods can be found on www.jasonvanburen.com. Should you have any questions please email volunteer@jasonvanburen.com.

If you would like to contribute through mail, please send your contribution with your name, phone number, address, and employer to the address below:

Jason Van Buren Volunteer Committee

Coon Rapids , MN 55448

Thank you for your support.

Monte Carlo Alumni Dinner

Several local alumni met for a casual dinner at the Monte Carlo in downtown Minneapolis last week. Joining us was Maria Mitova, who pledged the Eta Lambda chapter at UNLV in 2003 but now lives & works in the Twin Cities.

Although we don't traditionally hold events in the summer, everyone in attendance had such a good time that we decided to plan another casual event sometime in July/August - stay tuned!

MAY ALUMNI DINNER TO BE HELD AT THE MONTE CARLO

We are celebrating the final AKPsi Alumni Dinner of the 2005-2006 school year by NOT having a speaker and instead letting loose and just sitting down for a nice dinner on Tuesday, May 30 at 6pm at the Monte Carlo in the Warehouse District in Downtown Minneapolis.

Highlights of the night - our group will have a private room for dinner, the Monte Carlo has great ambiance, plus the award winning classic martinis at the copper-topped bar are worth a visit alone. If you've never been to the Monte, this is a great chance to check it out! There's free valet parking and if it's nice, we may visit the NEW patio after dinner. The Monte Carlo is located at 219 3rd Ave N, Minneapolis, MN 55401, (612) 333-5900.

Cocktails will begin at 6pm, with dinner scheduled for 6:45pm. Cost will be $25 for dinner and will include your choice of entrees from a set menu and your choice of beverage. Please invite another alumni friend and RSVP for the dinner by Friday, May 26 to Laura Whisney at laurawhisney@gmail.com. Any questions regarding the dinner may also be directed to Laura at this email address.
